Vaigai River
▪️ South of Cauvery Delta, there are several streams of which Vaigai is important.
▪️ Vaigai basin is bounded by :-
- Varushanadu, Adipatti, Cardaman and
- Palani hills on West and by Palk strait and Palk bay on East.

1. Origin and Path
- Originates in Varusanadu Hills, Theni district
- Flows northeast through Kambam Valley, between Palani Hills and Varushanad Hills
- Vaigai Reservoir near Narasingapuram
- Continues southeast, descends from mountains onto the coastal plain
- Turns west and empties into Palk Strait, north of Kochi
2. Length and Drainage Basin
- Extends for 150 miles (240 km)
- Encompasses a drainage basin of 2,713 square miles (7,031 km²)
3. Tributaries
- Main tributaries: Suruliyaru, Mullaiyaaru, Varaganadi, Manjalaru, Kridhumaal
4. Utilitarian Significance
- Vital water source for irrigation, drinking (five districts of Tamil Nadu namely Theni, Madurai, Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai and Dindigul), and transportation
